SSOE NAMED ARCHITECT/ENGINEER ON NEW NISSAN PLANT
The new Mississippi Nissan Plant has legilators approving a $295 million cash infusion in the company and community.
12/04/00 – Nissan has selected SSOE, Inc. as the architect and engineer for their new assembly plant in Mississippi. Located south of Canton in central Mississippi, the plant will be situated on a 1,300-acre site. The Japanese automaker is planning to make 250,000 vehicles a year in this $930 million plant. Nissan Chief Operating Officer, Carlos Ghosen, stated that the Mississippi facility will produce SUVs, trucks and minivans. Construction of this 2,000,000 square foot plant is scheduled to begin in April 2001 with production starting by the year 2003. Nissan estimates that the employment level of about 4,000 at the facility could be reached by the year 2005.
Mississippi legislators approved a $295 million cash infusion for roads, infrastructure, incentives, and job training. The State will invest $180 million in the company and $115 million in the community, according to The Clarion-Ledger (Jackson, MI) newspaper.
